Jim's Ride To Breathe - In Memory Of A Most Influential Man
Second only to my father, Jim Sauls was the most influential man in my life growing up.
It turns out, I was not the only one who felt this way about "Coach."
From Tragedy Comes Hope
On April 13, 2017, Tallahassee lost a coach, a friend, and a proud and dedicated member of our community. Former Head Football Coach at Leon High School, Jim Sauls, died suddenly from complications of Asthma.
According to the American Lung Association, each day 11 people die from Asthma in the U.S resulting in more than 4000 deaths a year. Many of these can be prevented with proper screening, education and treatment.
The Respiratory Care Services Unit inside Tallahassee Memorial Hospital focuses on those same practices to help patients who suffer from Asthma as well as many other breathing disorders.
Jim's Ride To Breathe - November 5, 2017
I was notified by Jim's son (Jim, or Jimmy if you've known him since he was born) that they were putting together an effort to raise money for the Respiratory Care Services Unit at TMH. We've volunteered to be the first title sponsor and want to do our part to spread the word.
In partnership with the TMH Foundation, Jim’s Ride to Breathe will send all proceeds from the event to this unit within TMH.
The goal is to raise awareness about Asthma by honoring Jim’s favorite past time of cycling, on a scenic route that winds from downtown Tallahassee at Leon High School all the way down to St. Marks.
As we honor “Coach”, a life-long resident of Tallahassee, and remember the impact he had on this community, we invite you to join us on Sunday, November 5th, for the first annual Jim’s Ride to Breathe.
The benefit ride includes 16, 34 and 47 mile course options and welcomes cyclists of all levels.
This family friendly event will start at 8:30am on the Leon High track in front of the Cox/Sauls Field House adjacent to Bobby Benson Field where Jim helped mold, mentor and impact so many young lives.
Jimmy continues to seek additional sponsors for this event.
