Local Teen Holds 4th Annual Dollars For Diabetes Car Wash
You have a great opportunity to get your car clean and support Haley May, a local Tallahassee teenager who is holding her Dollars For Diabetes Car Wash on April 30th. Please take the time to support this wonderful young lady and the cause that she has been supporting for many years.
You might remember that the idea for this car wash cam from Haley May, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in June 2007, when she was only 11 years old. Haley and her family (Don May is the Senior Vice President/City Executive for Farmers & Merchants Bank here in Tallahassee) really didn't know much about Diabetes at that time, so Haley figured that she would take on the cause for creating awareness for Diabetes.
Haley asked her family if she could hold a car wash to raise money for the American Diabetes Association and remarkably, over the past three years she has helped raise over $20,000. Remember, Haley is just a 9th grader at Chiles High School!
The Dollars For Diabetes Car Wash is no ordinary car wash either. They offer hot dogs, cold drinks, and The Cake Shop will be selling cupcakes to help support the cause. So please mark your calendar for April 30th, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Farmers & Merchants Bank (located at the intersection of Thomasville Road and Metropolitan Boulevard just south of the I-10 and Thomasville Road intersection.
So what can you do to help Haley pass her record-setting year from 2010? Print a copy of her Car Wash Flyer and circulate it among your friends (or send them a link to this blog post) and encourage them to participate. If you have a Facebook account (and any other social media that you use) please "like" this post so that all your friends will know about the car wash as well.
Haley reminds us how important this is every year. It is estimated that over 30% of the children born in the United States in the year 2000 will develop some form of Diabetes during their lifetime. And 100% of every dollar collected goes to the American Diabetes Association for research to help cure all forms of Diabetes, so there's no reason you can't help Haley raise awareness for diabetes and drive a clean, shiny car, all at the same time. I hope to see you there!
