Video Shows How To Search The Tallahassee MLS

When I first got into the real estate business in Tallahassee, the multiple listing system (Tallahassee MLS) was not computerized. We all submitted our listings and every three weeks or so, a new "MLS Book" was published. Sorting through this colossal printed assembly was not fun. We would sit with buyers and show them grainy black and white photos of what was available.

Sorting through homes for sale in Tallahassee was another problem. One section of the book contained all the three bedroom homes, the next four bedroom homes, etc. So if a homeowner wanted to properly market their 4 bedroom home, it would show up in the four bedroom section, but it would also show up in the three bedroom section under another listing number. I suspect that this is where the practice of listing a home for sale more than once began.

The most significant difference between then and now is the easy access to the information by the consumer. If you wanted to buy a home in Tallahassee, you needed to speak with a Tallahassee REALTOR® to even begin your search. You had to arrange for a time to come into the real estate office and sit down with us to view our black and white MLS books. But times have changed.

Now, you can go to the Tallahassee Real Estate Web Site and have immediate, free access to the information in the Tallahassee MLS. Look for the picture that you see to the right, as you can use it to search all homes in the multiple listing service and you can even take advantage of some great new tools. These new tools allow you to save your search and to even receive email notifications when a new listing that meets your criteria has been entered into the system.
