In 26 years of selling real estate in Tallahassee, I've heard agents say some crazy things.
But this past week we received a "confession" from an agent that just blew my mind.
A Crazy Question From A Real Estate Agent
Here is what she said (paraphrased):
Hey, I'm a new agent and my company has not shown me how to fill out a contract. I have a buyer that really likes your listing. Will you help me fill in an offer so my buyer can buy the home?
A Crazy Question For You (or two)
- Do you think her buyer got the best deal possible?
- Do you think the buyer even got the home?
- How confident would you be that this agent is in a position to properly negotiate on behalf of the buyer?
- Would you knowingly hire this agent to help you buy a home? Sell a home?
Seeking Competent Real Estate Advice
Today's real estate consumer is getting smarter. Barely.
A recent survey from Zillow showed that younger home buyers are looking online and choosing a real estate agent to help them before getting to heavily invested in their home searches. The consumers who take their time and look at reviews of Tallahassee real estate agents are the most likely to end up completely happy with their purchase or sale of a home.
But this same survey showed that 70% of home sellers chose the first agent with whom they spoke. This often times means they "liked what they heard" from a salesperson so they hired them on the spot.
Hmmm. A salesperson that knows what you want to hear. No way this could go wrong, right?
