The Real Estate Twitter (er)

Real Estate and Twitter have been joined at the hip for more than a year now, with many web site visitors flooding in via a twitter real estate stream.

Picture Of Real Estate TwitterMy real estate Twitter account just surpassed 100,000 followers last week and I am just blown away with how the world of microblogging works. For readers not familiar with how real estate and twitter combine, you can follow this link to Twitter and Real Estate that I wrote just one year ago (when I only had 2,100 followers!).

Just as a refresher, this microblogging social network was created so that users could broadcast to anybody who would listen "what I am doing right now" in 140 characters or less. But what has happened is that it has morphed into a network of people who pass information and links regarding breaking news and information.

Twitter is the 10th most visited site on the internet by US citizens, so it's popularity is unquestionable, although understanding why this is true took me quite some time to fathom. I listed 6 Key Benefits Of Using Twitter In Real Estate when I wrote my last article on this topic, and they still hold true a year later. But with an extra year of tweeting under my belt, I can tell you there is a singular, primary reason that all great real estate agents should have an account with a massive number of followers.

Twitter Helps Leverage Mass On The Internet

Picture of real estate on TwitterI just don't think most people understand the nature of viral marketing in the real estate industry. Twitter has become a great tool for me to spread the word about properties for sale in Tallahassee and the key benefits of our listings. We are seeing our web site traffic from microblogging continue to grow each and every month, and I am amazed that more people in the home selling business are not utilizing this powerful marketing tool.

The reason that we have generated over 100,000 followers on Twitter is that we provide a stream of real estate market reports. I think people who are interested in buying or selling become more interested in the housing market and we provide a great stream of information that people can tap into.

Of course, any time somebody hires us to sell a home in Tallahassee, we use our reach on Twitter to blast information about their home to our followers. Often times, our followers "retweet" the blast to their followers, so the effective reach of our account is well into the millions. This is the concept of leverage and why viral marketing is growing so rapidly on the internet.
